![]() ![]() Disaster! I tried to “fix” this by connecting to as many different UK servers as I could manage, and this worked for a few days. Then, one-by-one, these servers stopped working with BBC iPlayer too. Next, I got in touch with the support team, via Live Chat, and they told me to delete my browser’s cookies and try different UK servers. Eventually, they confirmed that they didn’t have servers that worked with BBC iPlayer, and they no longer supported BBC iPlayer as a feature. And this time, I did my research properly. What you NEED to know:ĭespite what some VPNs advertise, there’s not a single VPN that’s able to guarantee you access to BBC iPlayer 100% of the time. Even the very best VPNs – like ExpressVPN ($6.67/month)– have small periods of time (sometimes lasting a few days) where they can’t unblock BBC iPlayer. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to combat this as a VPN customer. All you can do is try the other UK servers (IP addresses) the VPN provides. But if that doesn’t work you just have to wait and hope your VPN provider releases new, undetected, UK servers to its customers soon. The streaming service targets all VPN connections: VPNs that don’t work with BBC iPlayer as of October 2022īBC iPlayer doesn’t just block IP addresses from a single VPN. How to fix BBC iPlayer not working with VPN? The list of VPNs that don’t work with BBC iPlayer is massive. You can wait for your VPN to release new IP addresses, that haven’t been blacklisted by BBC iPlayer, and you won’t run into these errors you’re coming across. However, the very fact that this has happened already, means your VPN doesn’t have measures in place to get around these blocks, and inevitably these new IP addresses will be blacklisted as well. This could result in you wasting money on a subscription to a VPN that isn’t going to work. Also, there’s no telling how long it will take for a VPN to release new IP addresses, as they’re expensive and hard to come by. The best workaround for when BBC iPlayer is not working with your current VPN is pretty logical. ![]() One that hasn’t been blacklisted by iPlayer and one that gives you access to IP addresses that aren’t blacklisted either. You need to upgrade to a VPN that’s winning the game of Cat and Mouse against the BBC. I don't see any reason at all for an ATV, you need a PC somewhere in the house switched on anyway to stream anything to the ATV, you can't do iPlayer etc, can't play all movies unless they are encoded in a format it supports, have to hack it (which you can't do with ATV3 anyway) to get it to run Plex etc and it has no storage so is totally reliant on either Broadband to see the Cloud or for a Mac to be switched on also for it to stream from.ExpressVPN ($6.67/month) is currently the best at this. I use AirServer so I can still use airplay to send files from my iPhone etc to the Macbook so no loss of functionality there either. (Photo's, Music, Movie files - all handled with PS3 MediaServer). XBMC - Same as above but XBMC version - ditto don't use XBMC PLEX - PLEX Mobile for iPhone (I don't use PLEX but I would use this if I did) VLC - VLC Remote for iPhone (don't actually need to use VLC as I play all movies through the PS3 using PS3 MediaServer on the Macbook) IPlayer and general use = Mobile Mouse Pro for iPhone I can still use PLEX / XBMC or anything else available without any hacks etc. I can watch iPlayer HD without any weird DRM removal nonesense, I also of course have my iTunes etc all available locally as well.īenefits over ATV - I can watch any format I like (with either VLC locally or PS3 MediaServer through my PS3), It also runs the full OSX version of BBC iPlayer (so I can DOWNLOAD shows (living abroad with a crappy broadband makes downloading essential, no way will streaming work). I have an old Macbook sitting behind my TV running 24x7 using PS3 MediaServer and network linked to an external USB drive plugged into my Apple Airport Extreme which holds all my Photo, movie, music (iTunes) files etc. Been browsing through the AppleTV forum and to be honest if your budget can stretch to it I would use a Mini/old Laptop as a media hub over a ATV, or at least thats my conclusion. ![]()
